Wedgewood Mortar & Pestles

The term Wedgewood refers to a type of earthenware pottery introduced in England in 1759 that is still used today to make mortars and pestles. Wedgewood is similar to porcelain, but it is unglazed. It provides a strong grinding surface, but being more porous, it stains easily. It is best suited for powdering crystalline solids and other hard substances. The wood-handled pestle is more durable than its all-porcelain counterparts.
